In one month, you can change your YouTube performance.

Yep…it can be done.

Let’s start with a bit of a background so that you know what kind of YouTube channel this was and my experience with making YouTube channels.

I already had one channel. It was mostly fitness, lifestyle, and vlogging. The channel was monetized, but it wasn’t really getting the views I wanted, and I wasn’t thrilled with the content that I was creating.

Therefore, by the time I started to focus on my second channel, I wasn’t a newbie to the world of making YouTube channels. So, I didn’t have that learning curve.

I just needed to figure out what I was going to focus on. I knew it was going to be based mostly on legal topics, but I didn’t know exactly what kind of legal topics I wanted to discuss.

First, I provided general information about business and legal topics.

Next, I focused on business and legal topics for content creators. I tried to niche down.

But it was slow going, and I realized it was still not quite what I wanted to do, and like the first channel, I wasn’t really happy with the content.

It was 2021, and I don’t think I received 1,000 views that year.

Think about this for a minute. At that point I had two channels that I wasn’t happy with.

In 2022, it was pretty much going the same. I started to post more videos. But I knew that I couldn’t keep doing the same ole same ole.

One day I decided to try something different. I started focusing on legal documents, like lawsuits and the documents associated with them.

That was November of 2022. That month, I received 3,601 views. It was the most views I had ever received in a month.

Then, in December, I received 37,709 views.

I was thrilled.

One of the first things that you’ll notice is that I posted more videos. But that’s not the only thing that increased my views. People watched, and they kept coming back because of the videos and topics that I was focusing on.

They got more engaged with the content. They left more comments. They asked questions.

More viewers started coming back, and YouTube started suggesting more of my videos.

So, how did I get to this point?

Well, here’s what I did.

Yes, I posted more videos, but I doubled-down hard on one topic. And to be clear, it wasn’t just a topic.

It was something that already had a strong following, and I made my self a leading expert on providing up-to-date information on that topic…a celebrity family that was having legal troubles.

So, here’s the first tip.

FIND A TOPIC THAT ALREADY HAS A STRONG FOLLOWING, AND BECOME AN EXPERT ON A SUB-TOPIC RELATED TO IT.

Once I saw that people were interested in the topic, I realized that I needed thumbnails that got people’s attention.

I know that we often talk about making thumbnails that are clickbaity, so I focused on making better thumbnails.

For instance, in one thumbnail, the title mentioned that one family member thought he was too old for jail. The thumbnail that I made to go with that video showed a current picture of the person beside an aged picture of the person.

The thumbnail really drew people in. The title mentioned that the person though he was too old to go to jail.

In another thumbnail, I showed a person’s best friend and said that she was opening up about her relationship with one of the family members, and that she did this in a letter.

The thumbnail and title pulled it all together.

It gave people the sense that they were going to get information that was new, that no one else had heard about, and it was someone…a best friend, who would be revealing personal details.

Who wouldn’t want to know personal details about a celebrity that they followed.

One of the things I learned during this process was that I needed to use better language in my thumbnails. So, I made a list by checking out the words being used on other peoples’ videos.

My list included words like the following: revealed, opens up, admits, attempts, releases, offers up, fires back, caught. I researched other channels to get ideas of words to use that I thought would grab viewers’ attentions.

Then I started finding ways to use those and similar words.

So, here’s the takeaway.

MAKE A LIST OF CATCHY WORDS TO USE IN TITLES AND THUMBNAILS BY RESEARCHING CHANNELS SIMILAR TO YOURS.

But it’s not enough to use words. Graphics matter too.

I found that by adding arrows and circles to point out things in the thumbnail, I increased the interest in what the video was about.

My graphics included arrows point to words, circles or ovals around words, underlining under certain words…all to draw attention and interest.

I made sure that the color stood out also. Usually I used either red or black so that it could be easily seen.

THEREFORE, WHERE APPROPRIATE, INCLUDE EYE-CATCHING GRAPHICS.

All of these things matter, and notice that they focused on what I was putting in the thumbnail.

But there was something that I took out. There was something that I deleted.

That was me.

When I was talking about business law and content creation, I included pictures of me in the thumbnail.

But let’s be clear. No one knows who I am.

So, I deleted myself, and focused on adding pictures of people who had a following, even if they were the same pictures.

I’d move them to different places on the thumbnail.

I add another strong personality to the thumbnail.

In other words, I realized that if people are scrolling through the YouTube main page, they’re not going to stop if they see a picture of me. However, they might stop if they see a picture of a celebrity that they’re interested in.

So, here’s another takeaway to help you 10x your views.

INCLUDE PICTURES OF WELL-KNOWN RECOGNIZABLE PEOPLE, PLACES OR THINGS IN YOUR THUMBNAILS. DELETE YOURSELF.

In addition to those, yes…I posted more videos. I responded to comments. I added descriptions, relevant keywords, and hashtags.

It’s been said that if YouTube is providing you with a place to supply additional information about your video, then there is a reason they’re interested in it.

So, it might be good for you as a creator to provide this information.

In the end, my suggestion is to keep putting out content; see what’s working for you and what’s not.

Make changes were you need to.
